First Friday at The 815

The following Press Release went out yesterday:
We are doing it again. With two openings behind us in April and May, The 815 will again participate in the First Friday Art Walk from 6pm to 9pm on June 4th. Join us in supporting supporting local artists and the Lincoln art community.
The 815 continues to host the local organization, Artists on the Edge, in their street level space. Artists on the Edge is a group of artists with a passion to create and a desire to further the discussion of outsider art. The lower level of The 815 will spotlight the work of local artist Brian Coate. Brian Coate was born in Omaha and currently resides in Lincoln, Nebraska. He attended Omaha South High School, a magnet school for fine and performing arts, where he discovered his love and necessity to paint. Brian has attended UNL for a brief stint to study art and is currently working at a local coffee shop to help pay for school. His work has profound stylistic and conceptual influence of the impressionists of the late 1800s as well as the modernists from the early and mid 20th century. The subjects of the paintings are taken from his sketch books and uses line, color and abrasive brush strokes to create an abstraction of the initial sketch to accentuate the expression of human emotion and the human experience.
The 815 is a new community venue which aims to serve the artists and musicians of the city of Lincoln. It is located at 815 O Street in the old Pepperberg Cigar Factory right in under the O Street overpass and right around the corner from Gallery 9 and Noyes Art Gallery. Visit their web site for more information at www.the815.org.
On the Air

Because of our work with engaging the local art scene through First Fridays and The 815, Cheech (who is taking on the role of Visual Arts Director for The 815) and I have been invited to go on KZUM (89.3 FM) tomorrow (Tuesday, 5/11) evening from 6-7pm on “Blog Talk Live” with Dennis Kornblugh. Dennis is the guy behind StarCity Blog and he and I have built a good friendship over the last five months. He has invited us to talk about The 815, art, 2 Pillars, and how they all come together. Tune-in if you’d like to hear and learn more about what is behind the work and vision of using The 815 as a community venue to serve local artists and musicians.
Spread the word if there are folks who you think might find this interesting. And finally, please be praying for us as we put ourselves out there tomorrow evening.
First Friday at The 815

The StarCity Blog ran a great article on The 815 yesterday regarding what we’re doing with respect to engaging downtown, the art scene, and how we’re approaching it. I found the article to be fair and balanced and I really felt that it captured the heart of what we’re up to.
Please take a minute to read the article, The 815: Downtown’s Latest First Friday Venue Serves Emerging Artists and then come out and join us at The 815 tonight from 6-9pm as we open our doors and participate in the First Friday Art Walk.
