Weekend Recap
Another crazy-busy-but-good weekend spend in Lincoln. Here’s the recap:
Friday
- Jumped a late afternoon flight to Omaha. Sat next to a former fraternity brother that lives in Omaha. Rented a car and drove down to Lincoln.
- Met with the owner of U.S. Properties (Monte F.) – a downtown commercial real estate business. We met for coffee at Story Tellers (a brand new coffee shop in the Grand Manse – aka the old Federal Building) with his wife and two of their friends.
- After coffee, they invited me into their home (a condo inside the Grand Manse) where we talked about God, church, Lincoln, and church planting. After that, I was given a grand tour of the Grand Manse which included several options for a possible church plant to meet.
- Met up with my friend Tom and a gal named Tami at Zen’s (tried Barrymore’s but it was packed out). Tami recently moved to Lincoln from Omaha where she was previously involved at Coram Deo.
- Crashed a little after midnight.
Saturday
- Up early and met a guy named Matt M. at Scooters in the Haymarket for coffee at 6:30am. Matt’s got a ton of passion, is a former Campus Crusade guy, and I’m excited for how God might connect him in with 2 Pillars Church.
- Met Ben and Bret Welstead at the Coffee House at 8am and talked about Lincoln and church in Lincoln. Two solid dudes.
- Met John and Deb Hanes at 10am at the Coffee House. John and Deb live in between Lincoln and Omaha and are interested in helping get the church rolling. Praying for their involvement.
- Slipped over to a tailgate party (yes, the Huskers had a home game) and saw my brother and my folks for about 15 minutes. Also ran into an old college buddy that I hadn’t seen in 7 years.
- Met with Clay Buell at noon d.Beans Coffee and realized that d.Beans is a lot further away from the tailgate party than I originally thought it was going to be! Clay and I met via Twitter.
- Met up with my friend Cheech at 2pm at the Bourbon Theatre to watch a the second and third quarters of the game while talking shop.
- Cheech then joined me on a walk through of a property down in the Haymarket as Monte F. showed us around. Excited about this space and praying for guidance and wisdom – join me in that if you think of it.
- Caught a little down time and called my wife.
- Held our second Vision Meeting at 6:30pm at my buddy Tom’s condo above Sandy’s. We had about two dozen adults plus several kiddos come. We talked about what it means to be a church in the city and also about what 2 Pillars is going to look like. We also took some time to do Q/A which was really helpful.
- Everyone cleared out by about 10:30pm or so. My buddy Adam and a few others stuck around and we shot a video interview.
- Crashed at about midnight again.
Sunday
- Met my friend Jeff for breakfast at 6am and talked through the opening chapters of Tim Keller’s, The Prodigal God. Jeff and I will be working through this book together over the next month or so.
- Adam joined us at 7:30am along with three guys from the Delt house.
- Bolted back down to meet Tom and head to River Tree to worship.
- Met up with the owners of DaVinci’s Pizza for lunch (at Runza no less) and talked about the mission and vision of 2 Pillars Church. I was really encouraged from meeting with the Knudsons and look forward to getting to know them.
- Hung out at McCray’s place and met a couple of his friends for a bit.
- Had a brief meeting at 2:30pm with another downtown developer who also happens to be an alum of the same fraternity house as me.
- Met two gals from UNL at 3pm (Anna and Shari) along with Adam and his wife at the Coffee House to talk more shop.
- Busted it to Omaha to catch my 6:20pm flight home.
- Crashed when I got back – so happy I got home in time to see my kiddos right before bed time.
