Preaching at Summit

This Sunday (7/26) I’ll be preaching at Summit Community Church here in O’Fallon on the myth that “Under Grace, Judging Others is Out.” If you live in the area, feel free to stop on in.
Summit Community is an Acts 29 Church that meets in O’Fallon Christian High School at 9am and 11am. Checkout the Summit website for more info.
New Strategic Partner: Core Community Church
I am excited to announce a new strategic partner for Project 2 Pillars. As of this week, Core Community Church in Omaha has been added to the ranks of Coram Deo, Summit, and Acts 29. After spending some time with the folks up at Core this past weekend, I’m really excited to see how this relationship develops as we, as churches, work to advance the gospel in the Lincoln/Omaha area.
Watch for a Strategic Partner Spotlight post coming soon on this new partner.
Why We Plant Churches (Audio)
This past Sunday I had the honor of preaching at Core Community in Omaha on the topic of why we plant churches. The audio is now up from that sermon. You can listen to the audio below, download it from Core’s Sermon Page, or grab it off of Sermon Cloud.
In addition, the guys at Core linked it into a post on their Pastor’s Blog called: Why Plant Churches: The Facts.
July Vision Meeting

This past Saturday evening about a dozen folks gathered in a condo in downtown Lincoln to mark the very first Vision Meeting for Project 2 Pillars. We shared some Yai Yai’s, got to know each other, and talked about the vision of 2 Pillars Church. Another thing we did was to go around the room and have each person detail how they ended up there that night. The stories and linkages were amazing: some found 2 Pillars through the web, some through a friend, some through a friend of a friend who lives in a different state, and some through another church. What stood out to me the most was the way in which God had brought this motley crew together. Six months ago I didn’t know any of the people in that room with the exception of one.
Some of the folks that were there on Saturday will be part of the 2 Pillars Launch Team and some won’t. Some will dedicate a part of their lives to getting this thing off the ground and others will steer clear of the challenge or follow a different direction that God has for them. Church planting is hard. I strive to make that clear. At this stage of the game, we’re looking for folks that are interested in rolling up their sleeves and getting after it. My prayer is that God will call some of those who were there and some of you who weren’t to roll up your sleeves and get after it with us.
Why Plant Churches

This weekend I’ll be preaching at Core Community Church in Omaha, Nebraska on the topic of “Why We Plant Churches.” In preparation for that sermon, I’ve been reviewing some wonderful resources that were instrumental in me coming to see the importance of church planting in the U.S. Here are some of those resources (note the very first nicely one summarizes a lot of the statistics that are out there):
Drew Goodmanson, Church Planting in a Post-Christian U.S. (short video)
Tim Keller, “Why Plant Churches” (PDF)
Tim Keller, “Why to Plant Churches” (mp3)
I would also highly recommend Ed Stetzer’s book, Planting Missional Churches.
