Lincoln in Pictures

This past weekend while in Lincoln I spent a lot of time just walking around the city and taking pictures.  Below is a taste.  You can see a ton more by checking out the “Lincoln in Pictures” page I created for the blog which links you to a slideshow in Flickr.

A Full Weekend

It’s early Monday morning and I’m sitting in my office processing through a busy, busy weekend.  Here’s a recap-download:

  • Got up  at 4:45am on Friday to spend some time in prayer, stuff some launch team booklets into envelopes, and finish reading a book for seminary.
  • Put in 6 hours at my job.  Thanks to an employer that allows flex-scheduling, I was able to leave work at about 3pm and spend a couple of hours with my family before leaving town.
  • Caught a 6:45pm flight from St. Louis to Omaha.  Rented a car and drove down to Lincoln.
  • Met up with a close friend of mine and a guy I’ve never met before that works for Campus Crusade a Barrymore’s for a beer.  Discussed what God is stirring in my heart and life and shared the passion and vision that He’s given me for 2 Pillars Church in Lincoln.
  • Crashed at my friend’s condo downtown somewhere around midnight.
  • Rose early on Saturday to meet a couple of guys at Scooter’s in the Haymarket for coffee at 6:45am.  These two guys are plugged in at Redeemer there in Lincoln.  One is a lawyer in town and the other works for RUF on campaus.  We talked a lot about the gospel and buildings in Lincoln for doing church.  Great guys who extended their hand of friendship, partnership, and companionship.
  • Drove down to South Pointe to meet with my cousin and her husband for breakfast at Panera. Explained some to them about the church plant and sent them away with a launch team booklet to process through.
  • Drove back downtown to meet with the 20s and 30s pastor from Lincoln Berean.  A great guy with a lot of good insight on the city and the culture of Lincoln.
  • Met a gal at Indigo books and discussed the mission and vision of 2 Pillars.
  • Had lunch with a guy getting ready to plant at 28th and O.  He brought along another guy and we talked a lot about Lincoln and planting and the need for more churches.  Good guys – again, extending the hand of friendship and partnership.
  • Met another gal at Starbucks and discussed the mission and vision of 2 Pillars.
  • Had a bit of a break from about 4pm to 6:45pm.
    • Wondered around town taking black-and-white pictures.
    • Bought a book on the history of Lincoln at the Nebraska Bookstore.
    • Tried to grab a 30 minute nap at my friend’s condo – couldn’t shut down to sleep though.
    • Chatted with Meg by phone for a little while and said hi to my 17-month old who responeded, “DAAAAA!”
  • Met up with five friends at Buzzard Billies for dinner Friday night.  These were all folks that I met with individually on my last trip (in Omaha).  We had a great conversation and it was great to see God beginning to unite several of us together on this mission.  We ended the dinner by praying together and I left feeling super encouraged and excited for the work of the Lord in Lincoln.
  • Met another guy at Brothers for a beer (one of the guys that had dinner at Buzzard’s came along too).  A solid dude who is moving down to Lincoln soon and is interested in being a part of the plant.
  • Caught up with my friend that I was staying with and hit up the Spigot Lounge for a beer and a game of pool before calling it a night at about midnight.
  • Sunday – slept in until about 7:15am.
  • Met a couple and their 2-year old at The Mill for coffee.  A wonderful couple who know the gospel and have a passion for gospel-transformed marriages and biblical men and women living out lives transformed by the gospel.
  • Wondered around more and took lots of pictures of the old churches on K Street and also the Capital building.
  • Went to church at River Tree with my friend and weekend host.  River Tree meets in the old State Theatre downtown.  Spoke with Greg Loy, the planter/pastor afterwards and got his contact information in order to connect in the near future.  Greg has a huge heart for church planting and is a guy that would seem to love to share the mission.
  • Met with a youth pastor from a local Lutheran church for lunch at BW3s that feels called to church planting, loves Acts 29, and is exploring all of that.
  • Took some final pictures from up on top the parking garage where my rental was parked.
  • Headed up to Omaha and caught my 5:45pm flight back to St. Louis.
  • Got home in time to love on my kiddos before bed time and then hung out with my wife until our bed time.

Busy busy.  All total I met with 20 people this weekend.  Some will be launch team folks, some not.  Some will be good friends when we get to town and some will be guys that I will get together with to talk shop about the gospel and Lincoln and church planting in the city.
