A Few Final Logistics

A few final logistics:

  1. This is a “blog” which means you can subscribe to it via RSS feed services like Google Reader. If you’re not familiar with blogs and RSS feeds, take a look at this post by Abraham Piper which will introduce you to Google Reader.
  2. My intent is to post at least once a week on this blog, but probably not much more than twice a week. I could flood you with information, but rather hope to provide it in a more restrained and progressive fashion so it is more digestible.
  3. Prior to the public launch of 2 Pillars Church (targeting mid 2010), a dedicated website will also be developed; however, this blog will live on until the church reaches the point of being self-sustaining.
  4. This blog will remain live from now until 2 Pillars Church becomes self-supporting (targeting mid 2012). After that time, it will remain alive, it just won’t be active. By that I mean it will remain available on the web, but the new posts and content will cease.

Coram Deo Getting the Word Out

Thanks to Bob and the guys over at Coram Deo for helping to get the word out about Project 2 Pillars via their blog.  Read their recent post, Church Planting in Lincoln.

How to Navigate this Blog

The layout of this blog/site is a bit unique, so I thought I’d take a minute to help you find your way around before posting additional content.

The site is divided up into four columns.

The leftmost column is where you will find new blog posts. Any new content will either show up directly in the leftmost column or else a post will be created identifying where you can find the new information.

The second to left column contains a set of “Pages” and also a running list of the most recent 10 posts from the leftmost column (the leftmost column will only display the most recent couple of posts). The “Pages” will ultimately serve as a place to convey the mission, vision, and values of 2 Pillars Church as well as other relevant information pertaining to this project. While much of this information is already written, it will be posted in progressive fashion via individual posts and once all appropriate sections have been posted, that information will be copied to a Page to serve as a consistent place to find the information. Feel free to peruse the “Pages” as they exist today as some information is available (note especially the Who is Leading this Church as well Why“2 Pillars?” pages – the main ones currently containing content). In addition to displaying the ten most recent posts, it will also contain an archive section so that you can easily navigate to older posts as well as a search bar.

Finally this column contains a “Contact” section (under “Pages”). Clicking on this link will bring up a dialog box where you can send me an email message.

The third column contains a some brief overview information about this project and how you can help. It will also serve as a place for me to post publications that are created in support of this project.

Finally, the rightmost column is more of an informational section. Here you’ll find links to our three strategic partners: Acts 29, Coram Deo, and Summit Community Church. Additionally, in this column you’ll find some RSS feed links to other relevant blogs.

So that’s the run down to how to find your way around. Happy trails.

A Taste

In order to provide a taste of the types of content I’ll be posting in the future, the following is a list of series that I plan to post as this thing gets off the ground:

  • The Mission of 2 Pillars Church – a series of posts unpacking the mission of this new church.
  • The Vision of 2 Pillars Church – providing the wide-angle view of what we see God up to in this.
  • The Values of 2 Pillars Church – a series of posts detailing the core values that will shape everything we do.
  • Our Journey So Far – a series documenting our trail covering the last two and a half years leading up to where we are today.
  • Strategic Partner Spotlight – a series highlighting our strategic partners, their ministry, and our relationship with them.
  • Fundraising Fun – a series capturing some of the nuts and bolts of what it looks like to raise support for a church plant.
  • Exegeting Lincoln – an ongoing series of analyzing the city and culture of Lincoln.
  • Reflections – an ongoing series of a more transparent nature describing what we’re going through (good, bad, and some ugly [when appropriate]).

Welcome to Project 2 Pillars

Welcome to the Project 2 Pillars Blog. Project 2 Pillars is a project to plant a new, gospel-centered, missionally-focused church in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. If you’re not familiar with what it means to “plant a church” it basically means we’re starting a new church from scratch: raising the funds, gathering the people, finding the place to meet – the whole thing.

Lord willing, our intent is to raise funds and begin the launch team assembly process this year (2009), relocate to Lincoln at the end of 2009 (we currently live in the St. Louis area), build the launch team in the first half of 2010 and launch mid 2010.

The Purpose of this Blog:
This blog was created with a three-fold purpose:

Provide a place to communicate and inform supporters (both prayer and financial supporters) of what is going on with this project.
As a church plant we’ll be networking with a wide group of individuals and organizations. This blog is intended to be a place where we can funnel people for more information about what is going on with the project as well as keep them updated on the status of everything.

Provide a way to communicate and build momentum with potential launch team members.
This blog will serve as a place where people in the Lincoln area who may be interested in being apart of Project 2 Pillars at the level of a launch team can come and get a taste for what this church will actually look like (theologically and practically).

Document our journey.
One of the main purposes of this blog is to document our journey as we plant this church. The intent here is not for this blog to become a resource detailing “how to plant a church” but rather one that communicates “how we planted 2 Pillars Church.” As such there will be nuts-and-bolts type posts (getting incorporated, gaining 501c3 status, raising support, gathering a core, etc) as well as reflective posts of a more transparent nature (what we’re going through, how we’re struggling, how we’re celebrating, what God is teaching us, how we see the gospel playing out in the world around us, etc). The reflective posts will be written primarily by me but my hope is to have my wife stop by on a semi-regular basis for an occasional post providing her perspective. In so doing, we hope to be able to provide encouragement and support to others who undertake a similar endeavor.

Thanks for joining us and please pass the word to anyone you know who may be interested in what God’s up to in Lincoln.
